BECE: Four teachers picked up for assisting students at Bekwai – WAEC

The
West
African
Examination
Council
(WAEC)
has
revealed
that
four
teachers
have
been
caught
engaging
in
examination
malpractices
at
Bekwai
in
the
Ashanti
Region.

The
Basic
Education
Certificate
Examination
which
began
on
Monday,
July
8,
in
various
centres
across
the
country
has
been
smooth
and
peaceful
amid
several
warnings
from
stakeholders
to
candidates
including
President
Akufo-Addo
about
abstaining
from
examination
malpractices.

However,
speaking
to
the
media
after
monitoring
at
some
examination
centres,
the
Head
of
National
Office,
WAEC,
Wendy
Addy-Lamptey
called
on
relevant
stakeholders
to
instil
discipline
in
students
to
avoid
cheating.

While
acknowledging
a
generally
peaceful
and
smooth
conduct,
she
reported
a
few
incidents,
including
some
teachers
in
Obuasi-Bekwai,
who
have
been
caught
up
for
assisting
candidates.

She
said,
“With
regard
to
the
conduct
itself,
I
think
we’ve
had
good
conduct
this
morning
and
again
this
afternoon.
I
must
say
that
we
have
just
had
a
few
reports.
We
have
had
a
few
people
picked
up,
some
teachers
picked
up
in
Obuasi,
Bekwai,
trying
to
help
the
candidate.

“About
three
or
four
of
them,
but
as
I
said,
we
just
had
a
report,
so
the
details
of
it
will
be
coming
and
then
we’ll
put
it
out.”
