Novak
Djokovic
has
acknowledged
that
he
is
currently
not
at
his
best
compared
to
rivals
Carlos
Alcaraz
and
Italian
tennis
star
Jannik
Sinner,
following
his
defeat
to
the
Spaniard
in
the
Wimbledon
final.
On
Sunday,
Djokovic’s
aspirations
of
securing
a
25th
Grand
Slam
title
and
equalling
the
record
of
eight
Wimbledon
titles
were
dashed
once
again.
The
Serbian,
who
has
24
Grand
Slam
victories
to
his
name,
was
overpowered
by
Alcaraz,
who
triumphed
with
a
6-2,
6-2,
7-6
(7-4)
win,
marking
his
second
consecutive
victory
over
Djokovic
in
the
SW19
final.
This
result
highlights
a
significant
shift
in
men’s
tennis,
as
the
younger
generation
starts
to
take
over.
Alcaraz,
21,
and
Sinner,
22,
have
collectively
won
all
three
of
this
year’s
Grand
Slam
tournaments.
“Both
of
them
are
the
best
this
year
by
far.
I
feel
like
I’m
not
at
that
level,”
said
Djokovic.
“In
order
to
really
have
a
chance
to
beat
these
guys
in
Grand
Slam
latter
stages
or
Olympics,
I’m
going
to
have
to
play
much
better
than
I
did
today
and
feel
much
better
than
I
did
today.”
So
far,
2024
has
been
Djokovic’s
worst
start
to
a
season
since
2006,
as
he
has
yet
to
secure
a
title.
The
37-year-old
was
thoroughly
outplayed
by
Alcaraz
in
Sunday’s
final,
with
the
young
Spaniard
showcasing
a
mix
of
deft
drop
shots,
powerful
serves,
and
thunderous
forehand
winners.
“Just
overall
the
way
I
felt
on
the
court
today
against
him,
I
was
inferior
on
the
court,”
Djokovic
admitted
in
his
post-match
press
conference.
“That’s
it.
He
was
the
better
player.
He
played
every
single
shot
better
than
I
did.”
