The Street Academy on Saturday held its annual Health Walk on the theme ‘Walking for wellness; Empowering our generation,’ with hundreds in attendance.
As early as 8am, the main street was adorned with colorful banners, as participants of all ages gathered at the starting point, stretching and chatting excitedly.
Children eager and full of energy, ran around in their bright T-shirts, sharing the event’s fliers to other members of the community.
The walk, as explained by the Street Academy Director, Ataa Lartey, was not just about fitness; it was also a tour through the heart of Accra.
The route wound through the Makola streets, Tudu, Cocobod and headed to the Rawlings park area and continued through Palladium, Light House in James town, the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and back to the Art centre.
The walkers, about 250 from the starting point, appeared energetic as they moved briskly with laughter and lively conversations, with some reminiscing old and new friendships.
Along the way, volunteers handed out water bottles and healthy snacks amidst cheerful tunes from a cheer group.
At the Academy grounds, there was an aerobic session for everyone.
The facilitators offered healthy refreshments, wellness tips, and free aerobics. Following that were fun activities for the children, including picture taking with the celebrities and chiefs present.
