Atta Mills Memorial Heritage outlines activities to mark 12th anniversary

The John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Heritage, an organisation dedicated to honoring the legacy of the late President John Atta Mills, has unveiled a series of events to mark the anniversary of his passing.

The activities will commemorate the 12th anniversary of President Mills’s death and celebrate his contributions to Ghana’s development.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra last Thursday, the Chairman of the John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Heritage, Alex Segbefia, indicated that a lecture slated for Friday, July19, would witness a thought-provoking presentation by veteran journalist and Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Junior.

“With his vast knowledge and expertise, Mr Pratt will shed light on the enduring impact of President Mills’s tenure,” Mr Segbefia said.

The lecture would be chaired by a Former Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo, emphasising the event’s importance and the esteemed status of the late president.

As part of the programme, Mr Segbefia said a captivating book titled “Atta Mills around the regions” would be launched to commemorate the passing of the late President Mills.

The book is a compilation of all the lectures delivered in each of Ghana’s 16 regions during the year-long celebration of President Mills’s 10th anniversary of death.

In addition, a solemn wreath laying ceremony and memorial service honouring the late President Atta Mills would be held at the Asomdwee Park on Thursday, July 24, 2024.

A hockey tournament on Saturday July 27, 2024 at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium here in Accra has also been scheduled as part of the commemoration.

The hockey competition would attract talented players from various schools and clubs to ignite a sense of camaraderie and healthy competition among participants.

A hockey enthusiast himself, Mr Segbefia said the Atta Mills Memorial Hockey Tournament would not only commemorate the late president’s passion for sports but also serve as a platform for nurturing young talent and promoting the growth of hockey in Ghana.

The activities lined up for the 12th anniversary of the late president, Mr Segbefia said would provide an opportunity for Ghanaians from all walks of life to pay their respects and remember the late president’s contributions to the country.
