Oboy accused as the mastermind behind Kantamanto fire – Deputy Minister claims

Deputy
Minister
Designate
for
the
Ministry
of
Local
Government,
Decentralisation,
and
Rural
Development,
Hon
Ekow
Vincent
Assafuah,
has
accused
one
Oboy
as
the
mastermind
behind
yesterday’s
fire
outbreak
in
Kantamanto.

According
to
him,
the
man
is
known
as
Quaicoo
but
he
is
widely
known
in
Kantamanto
as
Oboy
and
a
known
sympathiser
of
the
National
Democratic
Congress
(NDC).

Speaking
during
a
radio
interview,
the
deputy
minister
claimed
that
the
fire
was
deeply
political,
fueled
by
tensions
from
the
just-ended
general
elections.

He
continued
that
the
people
of
Kantamanto
have
been
living
as
a
community
and
no
way
from
that
community
would
intentionally
start
a
fire
to
just
destroy
the
properties
of
others.

“Anybody
who
knows
Kantamanto
will
tell
you
that
these
are
people
who
live
as
one
community,
Quaicoo,
a
polling
agent
for
the
opposition
NDC,
had
recently
fallen
on
hard
times
following
a
divorce
that
left
him
financially
dependent
on
market
associates.
But
due
to
politicking…”
he
said.

Hon
Ekow
Vincent
Assafuah
went
on
to
say
that,
a
woman
from
the
market
even
told
him
that
the
fire
in
the
market
started
a
few
minutes
after
Quaicoo
aka
Oboy
passed.

“A
woman
at
Kantamanto
told
me
that
on
Wednesday
around
11
p.m.,
she
saw
this
man
passing
by,
and
not
long
after,
the
market
was
in
flames,”
Mr.
Assafuah
disclosed.

“For
the
purposes
of
protecting
the
identity
of
the
person
who
provided
this
information,
I
will
keep
their
name
confidential.”
