Spanish
teenager
Lamine
Yamal
has
etched
his
name
in
European
Championship
history.

The
16-year-old
sensation
became
the
youngest
player
ever
to
score
in
the
tournament
during
Tuesday’s
semi-final
match
against
France.

In
the
21st
minute,
Yamal
unleashed
a
magnificent
strike
that
curled
past
French
goalkeeper
Mike
Maignan
and
nestled
into
the
top
left
corner.

This
goal
not
only
secured
him
the
youngest
scorer
title,
surpassing
the
18-year-old
record
held
by
Johan
Vonlanthen
(Switzerland)
since
2004,
but
it
also
made
him
the
youngest
scorer
in
any
major
tournament,
surpassing
the
legendary
Pelé
(17
years
old
in
1958).

Yamal’s
brilliance
extends
beyond
goalscoring.
He
had
already
made
history
earlier
in
the
Euros
by
becoming
the
first
teenager
to
register
an
assist.

Now,
with
three
assists
under
his
belt,
he
stands
alone
as
the
only
teenager
in
the
tournament’s
history
to
achieve
this
feat.
He’s
also
part
of
an
elite
group
(since
1980)
of
teenagers
with
multiple
assists
in
the
knockout
stages,
joining
Arda
Güler
of
Türkiye.

Spain
added
another
goal
shortly
after
Yamal’s
strike,
with
Jules
Koundé
of
France
deflecting
the
ball
into
his
own
net.
Spain
now
await
the
winner
of
the
England
vs.
Netherlands
match
in
the
Euros
final.
