The
Convention
People’s
Party
(CPP)
has
slammed
Dr.
Matthew
Opoku
Prempeh,
the
running
mate
of
the
New
Patriotic
Party
(NPP),
for
drawing
comparisons
between
President
Akufo-Addo’s
achievements
and
those
of
the
late
President
Dr.
Kwame
Nkrumah.
During
his
unveiling
ceremony
in
Kumasi
on
Wednesday,
July
9,
Dr
Opoku
Prempeh
asserted
that
President
Akufo-Addo’s
legacy
surpasses
that
of
the
late
Kwame
Nkrumah,
a
claim
the
CPP
vehemently
disputes.
CPP
in
a
statement
dated
Wednesday,
July
10,
described
Dr
Opoku
Prempeh’s
comment
as
“reprehensible
and
unbecoming
of
his
stature”.
“A
questioning
or
comparison
of
the
contribution
of
Osagyefo
Dr
Kwame
Nkrumah
to
Ghana,
Africa,
and
Humanity
as
a
whole,
is
a
moot
question,
dead
on
arrival,
outmoded
at
birth.”
The
Convention
People’s
Party
issued
a
24-hour
ultimatum
to
Dr.
Matthew
Opoku
Prempeh
popularly
known
as
NAPO
to
apologise
and
retract
his
statement,
cautioning
that
if
he
fails
to
comply,
they
will
appeal
to
President
Akufo-Addo
to
relieve
NAPO
of
his
duties
as
Minister
of
Energy.
“The
Convention
People’s
Party
calls
on
the
Honourable
Minister,
within
24
hours,
to
do
the
‘Honourable’
thing
for
the
sake
of
the
Country’s
image,
and
immediately
resign
from
all
Governmental
and
political
positions,
and
issue
an
immediate
apology
and
retraction.
“Failing
which
the
party
calls
on
His
Excellency
President
Nana
Addo
Dankwa
Akufo-Addo,
to
withdraw
the
Hon.
Minister
from
his
position
as
Minister
of
Energy,
and
also
calls
on
His
Excellency
Vice
President
Dr.
Mahamudu
Bawumia
to
withdraw
him
as
his
Vice
Presidential
candidate,
for
the
sake
of
the
Country’s
image,
and
its
long
term
political
and
economic
fortunes.”
The
CPP
has
demanded
that
NAPO’s
statement
be
removed
from
the
internet,
dismissing
the
comparison
as
“dead
on
arrival”.
“The
statement
is
so
reprehensible
and
unbecoming
of
his
stature
that
it
is
abhorrent
to
refer
to
it,
or
even
publish
it
anywhere,
whether
print
or
electronic
media
and
deserves
to
be
immediately
deleted
from
all
forums.”
