LI on cement pricing unconstitutional – Cement Manufacturers Association

The
Chamber
of
Cement
Manufacturers
Association
of
Ghana
has
described
the
laying
of
the
Legislative
Instrument
(LI)
on
cement
price
regulation
as
unconstitutional.

This
comes
after
the
LI
was
laid
in
Parliament
on
Tuesday,
July
9,
by
the
Minister
of
Trade
and
Industry,
K.T.
Hammond.

In
an
interview
with
the
media
after
a
stakeholder
consultative
forum,
the
Chief
Executive
Officer
(CEO)
of
the
Association,
Dr.
George
Dawson-Ahmoah,
argued
that
there
is
a
disconnect
regarding
the
premise
of
the
LI
to
regulate
cement
pricing,
thus
doubting
its
constitutionality.

“This
stakeholder
meeting
could
have
been
done
about
three
or
four
months
ago.
If
we
had
done
it,
we
wouldn’t
be
where
we
are
now.
Around
the
table,
discussions
have
really
gone
into
this
LI,
which
has
been
laid
in
Parliament,
and
we
are
counting
days.”

“One
very
significant
point
comes
out,
that
day
in
and
day
out,
you
actually
learn
to
see
the
consequences
of
it,
but
it’s
unconstitutional,
which
of
course,
is
mind-boggling.”
