Former
President
John
Dramani
Mahama
has
pledged
to
bridge
the
digital
divide
in
Ghana
should
he
be
elected
as
president
in
the
upcoming
elections.
Mahama,
who
served
as
the
President
of
Ghana
from
2012
to
2017,
emphasised
the
importance
of
digital
literacy
and
internet
access
in
today’s
globalised
world.
Addressing
journalists
in
Accra
on
Sunday,
he
indicated
that
both
the
present
and
future
were
digital
for
which
reason
no
one
could
be
left
behind.
He
outlined
a
comprehensive
plan
that
includes
investing
in
infrastructure
to
extend
broadband
internet
access
to
rural
and
underserved
areas,
improving
the
quality
of
ICT
education
in
schools,
and
providing
support
for
tech
startups
and
digital
entrepreneurs.
Mr
Mahama
stressed
that
access
to
the
internet
was
no
longer
a
luxury
but
a
necessity
for
education,
business,
and
participation
in
the
global
economy.
He
said
there
was
the
need
to
ensure
that
every
Ghanaian,
regardless
of
where
they
lived
or
their
economic
status,
had
the
opportunity
to
connect
to
the
world.
Mahama
further
highlighted
the
role
of
digital
technology
in
fostering
innovation
and
creating
jobs.
