Some
residents
of
Mepe
in
the
North
Tongu
District
have
expressed
fear
following
the
announcement
of
spillage
of
water
from
the
Akosombo
Dam
by
the
Volta
River
Authority
(VRA).
Manklalo
of
Mepe
Traditional
Area,
Togbe
Kwasi
Nego
VI,
told
TV3,
the
community
is
yet
to
recover
from
the
harm
caused
them
during
the
last
spillage.
He
said
the
Inter-ministerial
Committee
set
up
by
the
President
after
the
spillage
is
yet
to
show
any
sign
of
work.
The
Manklalo,
who
is
also
an
Assembly
Member
of
Degorme
Electoral
Area
and
some
community
members,
have
described
the
announcements
from
VRA
as
pathetic.
On
July
8,
the
Volta
River
Authority
(VRA)
announced
its
intention
to
engage
relevant
stakeholders
of
a
potential
spillage
of
excess
water
from
the
Akosombo
Dam.
This
was
contained
in
a
notice
signed
by
VRA’s
Deputy
Chief
Executive
in
Charge
of
Services,
Ing.
Ken
Arthur,
to
over
40
stakeholders,
including
the
Minister
for
the
Interior
and
all
the
assemblies
within
the
dam’s
catchment
areas.
The
notice
indicated
that
VRA
will
follow
up
later
with
the
dates
and
times
for
the
engagement
awaiting
the
possibility
of
spillage
if
necessary.
